Intro to Alpine Climbing & Scrambling (aka Mountaineering)
Course Details:
Are you a competent hill-walker that enjoys the challenge of graded scrambles? If you’ve ticked some classic grade 1’s and you’re looking to take the next step then you need to learn some more advanced skills to stay safe. Grade 2 and 3 scrambles are much more committing; you’ll need to know how to use a rope to keep you safe for some sections. Grade 3 routes are basically ‘easy’ rock climbing! You’ll learn skills including how to:
- Understand grades and what a route is likely to entail
- Use a rope to keep you safe
- Use natural anchors to build belays
- Tie alpine chest coils to shorten the rope
- Use trad gear to protect climbing sections
- Belay a second to keep them safe
